Mergerate
One shipping charge per order, even when it ships from several locations.
Get it on the Shopify App Store (Mergerate on the Shopify App Store)$24/month or $240/year, with a 14-day free trial
What it does
When an order ships from more than one location, Shopify adds each location's app and carrier rates together, so a split cart can be charged shipping twice. Mergerate is a carrier service: it charges your own rates on one shipment and returns the same options at $0 on the others, with a label you choose. Set flat prices, countries and delivery estimates; it works best with flat rates. Needs carrier-calculated shipping on your Shopify plan.
- Split-cart rate requests answered as one shipping charge per order
- Your own flat rates, by country, with delivery estimates
- The same options at $0 on the other shipments, labelled
- Free-over and subtotal conditions count the whole order
- Request log of each shipment and the rates Mergerate returned
Who it's for
- Stores that ship from two or more locations and have seen a split cart charged shipping twice.
- Stores that use flat shipping rates and want customers to pay each rate once per order.
- Stores on a Shopify plan that includes third-party carrier-calculated shipping (Advanced and Plus include it; Grow plan stores can add it).

Questions
Which Shopify plans can use Mergerate?
Any store that can use third-party carrier-calculated shipping. Shopify includes it on Advanced and Plus. Stores on the Grow plan (formerly Shopify) can add it for a monthly fee or by switching to yearly billing. If your store can't use it yet, the Connect button shows Shopify's error with a hint.
What does the customer see at checkout?
Your rate names, for example “Standard shipping” and “Express”. When the cart ships from two locations, Mergerate charges the rate once on one shipment and returns the same options at $0 on the other, with the label you set in Settings. Shopify adds same-named rates together, so the customer pays shipping once.
Does free shipping work when a cart is split across locations?
Free-over and subtotal conditions use the order subtotal Shopify sends with every request, so items from all locations count. Weight conditions only see the shipment that carries the charge, which may not include items shipping from another location, so for split orders use flat prices rather than weight bands.
Does it slow checkout down?
Mergerate waits briefly for the other locations' rate requests before answering: 1500 ms by default, adjustable in Settings (0 to 4000 ms). A request that already holds the whole cart, such as a one-location checkout, is answered without that wait.
What happens if no rate matches?
By default Mergerate returns no rates, so Shopify shows whatever else you've set up for that zone. Or set a fallback price and name in Settings. If Mergerate hits an error it also returns no rates, so checkout falls through to your other rates.
Do I have to remove my existing shipping rates?
For each zone where Mergerate should price shipping, add it (Add rate, then Use carrier or app to calculate rates, then Mergerate) and remove the old flat rates there, so customers aren't shown both. The Status page walks you through it.
What does it cost?
$24/month or $240/year after a 14-day free trial, with all features. There is no free plan. Billed through Shopify; switch between monthly and annual on the app's Billing page.
What data does Mergerate keep?
Your settings and rates, and a short log of rate requests: the location name, destination country and postcode, the shipment's item ids, item count, subtotal and weight, the order subtotal and discount Shopify sends, and what was returned. Names and street addresses are never stored; they're only used to match the shipments of one cart, as a keyed hash. Log entries are deleted after 24 hours. See the privacy policy for the full list.
